LET'S SUMMARIZE - HARRY POTTER & THE SORCERER'S STONE (Harry Potter Book 1)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the first novel in the immensely popular Harry Potter series by British writer J.K. Rowling, published in.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Robert Downey Jr. Sign in. An orphaned boy enrolls in a school of wizardry, where he learns the truth about himself, his family and the terrible evil that haunts the magical world. This is the tale of Harry Potter, an ordinary year-old boy serving as a sort of slave for his aunt and uncle who learns that he is actually a wizard and has been invited to attend the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry is snatched away from his mundane existence by Rubeus Hagrid, the grounds keeper for Hogwarts, and quickly thrown into a world completely foreign to both him and the viewer.

The novel opens with a description of the Dursley family, a middle-class family that lives in Little Whinging, Surrey. Lily and her husband, James Potter , had been murdered by the dark wizard, Voldemort , but when Voldemort attempted to kill Harry, his power somehow broke. Harry becomes the only living person ever to survive the killing curse, and the only sign of his encounter with Voldemort is a unique lightning bolt-shaped scar on his forehead. Because Harry does not have any other living relatives, Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, decides to leave him with the Dursleys until he is old enough to attend Hogwarts. After ten years, Harry has grown to become a pale, skinny boy with black hair that sticks up all over the place and bright green eyes. From a young age, Harry is told that his parents were killed in a car crash but has no other information about them, not even a photograph. While Dudley has two bedrooms— one for his bed and one for all of his broken toys — Harry is relegated to the small cupboard under the stairs.

The Dursleys barely tolerate Harry, and Dudley bullies him. One day Harry is astonished to receive a letter addressed to him in the cupboard under the stairs where he sleeps.

Plot Overview

My favourite series and possible favourite book of all time are the Harry Potter series by J. Before I write this review can I just say that I'm not a fantasy reader. The first book is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

The books are read and enjoyed by children and adults alike and have also been made into hugely popular films. Do the Harry Potter books live up to the hype? You usually need to read a Terry Pratchett novel to ensure constant laughter throughout but Rowling has managed to infuse this book with a lovely wit and charm that will both amuse and delight adults and children. Dudley looked a lot like Uncle Vernon. He had a large, pink face, not much neck, small, watery blue eyes and thick, blond hair that lay smoothly on his thick, fat head.

It is a story about Harry Potter, an orphan brought up by his aunt and uncle because his parents were killed when he was a baby. Harry is unloved by his uncle and aunt but everything changes when he is invited to join Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and he finds out he's a wizard. At Hogwarts Harry realises he's special and his adventures begin when he and his new friends Ron and Hermione attempt to unravel the mystery of the Philosopher's Stone. I can read this book over and over again. From the very beginning until the end J.
