Read About Popular Marathi Authors & Writers | Cart91

I know the question is too comprehensive for the scope but I will limit myself to few. There are many Marathi authors who have transformed the art of story-telling in the Marathi literary landscape. Here is the partial list of my favourite with no particular order, they are extremely popular authors and their work is widely read. Even with my short experience with Marathi literature, I could harmlessly say that each one of the following authors has been one-of-its-kind and stands unprecedented. Marathi literature

The idea was to eventually end up with a list of must-read Marathi classics for all of us to read and encourage translations of — and we did. While the books one read as a child are important for everyone, for a writer they assume almost a mythic proportion in later years. Oh absolutely. When we were children, there was a Gandhian freedom fighter, Sane Guruji Pandurang Sadashiv Sane , who would translate one classic from world literature into Marathi every year. He had devoted his life to the upliftment of Dalits and women. He was a great lover of children too. Marathi literature , body of writing in the Indo-Aryan Marathi language of India. With Bengali literature , Marathi literature is the oldest of the Indo-Aryan literatures , dating to about ce. In the 13th century, two Brahmanical sects arose, the Mahanubhava and the Varakari Panth , that both shaped Marathi literature significantly. The latter sect was perhaps the more productive, for it became associated with bhakti movements, particularly with the popular cult of Vitthoba at Pandharpur. It was out of this tradition that the great names of early Marathi literature came: Jnaneshvara , in the 13th century; Namdev , his younger contemporary, some of whose devotional songs are included in the holy book of the Sikhs , the Adi Granth ; and the 16th-century writer Eknath , whose best-known work is a Marathi version of the 11th book of the Bhagavata-purana. Among the bhakti poets of Maharashtra, the most famous is Tukaram , who wrote in the 16th century.
